As part of their second year, IDE students took part in Relica 2024 — a transformative team-building weekend hosted at Grymsdyke Farm in the Buckinghamshire countryside. Over the course of 72 hours, students were challenged to design and construct a single artefact capable of transcending time, embodying their legacy for future generations of IDE innovators.
Working exclusively with waste materials, the groups explored the creative and symbolic potential of upcycling. The task encouraged critical reflection on circularity, materiality and the meaning of a physical legacy. The resulting “contemporary relics” became tangible expressions of the students’ values, ambitions and collaborative spirit.
Hosting IDE at Grymsdyke Farm has been both an honour and a pleasure, reinforcing our role as a place where learning, experimentation and making converge.
