The model on display is the result of a collective process that took shape primarily at Grymsdyke Farm, using materials sourced directly on site.

Over the course of an intensive residency, Nigel Coates, students from the AA, and invited designers; including Barengo and Madelon Vriesendorp; gathered at the Farm to explore materials and fabrication techniques. Their process included casting in glass and ceramic, modelling, and working with wood, paper, and other media.

Grymsdyke Farm became a space of production and vision, where hands-on making and critical thinking evolved side by side.

Our co-founder Guan Lee also contributed to the design and fabrication through a series of workshops held both at the Farm and at the AA.

The installation is part of the AA’s broader project focusing on I Pili, a neglected strip of land connecting Venice and Marghera. Through Margherissima, the AA presents a visionary provocation; not a utopia, but a speculative future. A new urban narrative shaped by its people, grounded in imagination and collective intelligence.

The making process was documented through a photographic series by George Baggaley, and will also appear in a film by John Maybury, presented as part of the exhibition in Venice.
