Caroline Grey: British Ceramics Biennial
From 1 September 2024 to 30 September 2024

Caroline Gray was one of four artists awarded the Fresh Award Residency by the British Ceramics Biennial in 2023. Through this award, and thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Biennial, Caroline spent a month at Grymsdyke Farm in September to further her research.

A sculptor and installation artist, Caroline used her residency to explore colour, texture and form through Parian, a porcelain-like clay that behaves very differently from the clays she usually works with. Unable to rely on her established hand-building techniques, she embraced the challenge of experimenting with new processes, creating works without the pressure of achieving perfect outcomes.

The residency provided space for exploration, risk-taking and reflection, with the results forming part of Caroline’s evolving practice.

The Fresh Talent Resident Artists will return to present their work at the next edition of the British Ceramics Biennial.
