Samantha Oswald

As a student at the University of Waterloo, Sam spent an extended period at Grysmdyke Farm exploring and developing her interest in clay and brick construction. Her experiments in the forming, firing and assembly of clay modules at the Farm draw from the landscape and its heritage. Grymsdyke Farm is situated geologically on one of the deposits of flinty clay which occur naturally in the Chiltern Hills, and culturally within the rich tradition of production and craft in Buckinghamshire County. Sam’s development of her own bespoke clay brick using wooden molds resulted in the construction of the Terracott Folly in the Grymsdyke Farm field - a folly that sits upon the material from which it is made.
